Play Your City is a hackathon-style event in which designers, thinkers, hackers, and community leaders work together to create a piece of playful urban design within a finite timeline. Play Your City encourages contributors to create a simple project that enhances the way citizens interact with their city and one another, using play to highlight or address urban issues.
The Challenge runs from 2pm-5pm as part of the City of Play Best Games Fest, August 31 in Downtown Pittsburgh. The challenge breaks down into roughly three parts:
All projects will be showcased during the Playtest Party at the end of the Festival, and collected into a downloadable PDF, allowing others to implement each team’s ideas in their own city. Check out the result of the prototype Challenge, “Army of Kindness!”
Registration for the Challenge is included in your festival ticket, which also gives you the opportunity to play all of the games of the Festival, as well as admission to the Playtest Party (where the results of the Challenge will be showcased). You can play the games at the Fest without participating in the Challenge, join for the Challenge only, or both! To join the Challenge, simply get a ticket for the Festival and join the event at the Arcade Comedy Theater at 2pm, August 31!
